Doris Wezenberg and Miguel Puga Sánchez have been with us since the start of this year. In this blog they'll share their experience working at venture IQ as Technology analysts.

Please, introduce yourself…

Doris: Hi, my name is Doris and I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Amsterdam. In January, I joined the VentureIQ team as a Technology Analyst. When I am not studying or working, I love to cook, chill with my friends or finetune Spotify playlists.

Miguel: Hello! My name is Miguel and half a year ago I started working as a full-time Technology Analyst Intern at Venture IQ. Last year I finished my four-year bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Regarding me, I live in Rotterdam and sports are my passion. In fact, the first thing I did when I settled there was to join a CrossFit, box, and also a chess club. Moreover, I love traveling and spending time with friends.

What do you do on a daily basis?

Doris: It is difficult to describe a typical day in the life of a Technology Analyst, as this is highly dependent on the phase of a project on which you are working. Generally speaking, the daily activities allow you to implement your strategic skills to ensure that the steps you are taking in a project are effective, and your analytical skills in organizing information and assessing the value of technologies or companies. Venture IQ’s in-house developed software Catalist assists you during all stages of the project by offering you valuable tools to retrieve and organize data.

Miguel: Working full-time allows me not only to take part in projects with clients but also to work on other activities linked to the core business of Venture IQ. I usually start the day doing sales, so I email lots of potential Spanish clients and schedule meetings with those who are interested in our services. Afterward, I perform different tasks depending on the priorities of the team. I’ve been doing multiple internal projects like preparing new presentation templates and writing an article we have recently published in our blog. Moreover, many clients have come to us recently, so as a technology analyst, I use Catalist almost every day to scout and screen relevant companies for clients to invest in, as well as prepare presentations for the meetings.

What do you love about your job?

Doris: As a technology analyst, you get the opportunity to deep-dive into many different topics. Besides the variety that project-based working brings, the iterative aspect allows you to continuously improve your strategy and allows you to learn a lot. In addition to this, you are often conducting market research for large clients, which gives you a taste of which changes and innovations are currently of importance in the world. For these reasons, not to forget the tasty lunches that we make at Venture IQ, I enjoy working at VentureIQ a lot.

Miguel: This is my first work experience in a business-related position, so I’m constantly learning new things and expanding my skillset in a world that was completely unknown to me. I cannot put into words how much I’m learning from this amazing international and interdisciplinary team. Some of the things I enjoy most are getting to know first-hand how a company works from the inside and interacting with clients. In addition, I continue to be connected with biosciences as we have some biotech and agri-tech projects, which is something I was also looking for. It’s clear that Venture IQ was the perfect match for me!

How would you describe VIQ culture in words?

Doris: Dedicated, inventive, and cozy

Miguel: Homely, innovative and team-players
